Today, 90% of the shades on motorcycles and cars are types of body paint containing pearlescent pigments. These pigments give their name to pearlescent paints. Thanks to this fascinating effect, although nowadays quite common, the transparency and above all the choice of colors is much richer and more subtle than with classic aluminum-based paints. Pearlescent car paint has a fine, variable gloss effect depending on the light or angle of view.
The component that imitates the reflection of the pearl, has not been obtained for a long time, neither with mica nor with shells : today it is a pigment obtained synthetically, with a higher quality, a great purity, an intense gloss and possibly numerous colored reflections.
The transparency and lightness of the pigment, as well as its total resistance to sunlight or weather, make it a choice ingredient for the formulation of highly attractive colors for modern vehicles.
The transparent nature of these colors allows the passage of light and an effect of depth. However, this feature implies a lower covering power and often, the respect of a background color.
In exchange, this allows the total and unlimited use of transparent colors, resulting in vivid and deep colors (Diamond range). Other types "create the color" only from the reflection of light. These are the famous interferential effects developed by Stardust, which make it possible to play with combinations over any background color.
If, for example, you want to create a pearly white paint or a pearly black paint for a car or motorcycle, which was impossible with aluminium-based paints (too opaque), this is made possible with mother-of-pearl thanks to its transparency.
In the same way, a metallic white is impossible, because of the grey color of the metal pigment. Same, impossible to make a pure purple, or a pure metallic red. These colors are formulated with mother-of-pearl, and the term "metallic" is a popularization. Pearlescent paints for cars are both unrivalled for their versatile properties, but extraordinarily numerous in terms of the type of effects, the families of colors...
These Pearlescent Paints Diamond offer a choice of 38 bright and vivid colors, where each user will be able to find a shade to his or her taste. Diamond is a new type of paint based on mother-of-pearl silicon glass, ultra reflective and a mixture of Candy inks. They can be viewed by downloading the high definition color chart in PDF format in the DIAMOND paints product pages.
Here is an effect created exclusively by Stardust colorists, originally in response to frequent requests from painters looking for a black chameleon effect : The paint Black Interference was born, with the property of giving a colored reflection to the pure black color. Simple and economical, this effect is absolutely to be experienced.
Known as a very affordable series in terms of prices, this Multicolorz range offers standard colors of colored pearlescent paints, with a limited but very beautiful choice of various tones to personalize the bodywork, with fine grains and elegant reflections.
To obtain transparent pearlescent effects, we invite you to find our Crystal pearlescent varnishes and our iridescent range of colors, which give totally transparent iridescent finishes without affecting the original background color.
Iridescents are inevitably achieved with a system of 2 or 3 coats of paint to be superimposed : they produce variations of bright and sparkling colors.
This is Stardust's latest project : creating a selection of the most beautiful automotive paints possible. There are 10 of them, sorted and chosen from the most sought-after colors, and also the most amazing ones : the most beautiful paints in the world are made with the most expensive and special pigments. The colors are created little by little and will appear every year to reach a number of 10.
