How is the optical effect of a transparent colour produced ?
It is a technique where the light passes through the tinted clearcoat ( coat 2), and bounces back, being reflected and sent back outwards by the reflective background (coat 1 or the undercoat) : the observer therefore sees a colour that is made of pure light.
This visual magic trick is therefore performed in two steps : the base ( undercoat ) then the coloured transparency coat (pure colour).
On bodies and fairings, the visual result is impressive and infinitely variable because the tint is the result of the superimposition of a background and a coloured varnish.
It is therefore a multi-layer system that plays with transparency, colour and light : a paint made in one step is just an imitation !
- Step 1 : the paint for the base coat (undercoat), which must be a highly reflective metallic, pearly, glittery paint.
- Step 2 : the pure colour coat, which can be a coloured clearcoat or a tinted base.
The origin and secret of a Candy paint is the use of Candy inks. These are extremely transparent dyes that have the ability to let through and colour the light. Candy paints are therefore made with these liquid, pure and highly concentrated dyes. Depending on the number of coats of Candy clearcoat, dark and deep colours can be obtained.
Candy paint allows the personalisation of all types of vehicles. In the 'Bodywork paint' tab, we have created complete Candy paint kits for motorcycles in cans or aerosols, but also for scooters, bicycles and cars, with offers that include all the necessary paints.

This is the final coat, the one that is completely penetrated by light, because it is transparent : Candy paint topcoat is a body topcoat to which about 5% of concentrated ink have been added. The result is glossy and translucent with an unbeatable colour. It is perfectly possible to make this coat with a clear 1K base, to obtain a faster drying and the application of a large number of coats.
It is often too easily forgotten, but it is an essential step, and one that accounts for almost 50% of the formation of the final colour. It is the Candy paint undercoat on which depends the grain, the texture, the intensity of the iridescence, and also the hue, dark or light ! Indeed, a Candy red paint, for example, will not be the same on a pearly white or aluminium grey undercoat.
Do you know that the expression "Candy Paint" does not refer to a particular paint but rather to a set of coats ? Making a Candy paint spray (for anyone who doesn't have a spray gun), refers to two products : the metallic coat in aerosol and the tinted clearcoat in aerosol.
