Holographic paints are part of colour changing effects paints : the microscopic pigments constituting these remarkable paints reflect the light and produce iridescent rainbow colours.
StardustColors® produces 3 different qualities of holographic paints, each of which contains particles ranging in size from medium, fine to ultra fine:
- Spectrum: The finest aluminium-based effect (10 or 12µm) that displays an iridescent "liquid" effect
- Arco Iris: Very fine effect (20 or 35µm), easy to apply, based on aluminum.
- Rainbow Spektra, based on polyester micro pigments. The micro glitter effect is available in 68 or 200µm
The reflective pigments that are included in our prismatic products react like a prism: they split the light in all the rainbow colours, from purple to red.
In the absence of light, the applied product has a silver grey appearance. The colour reflection is visible only under direct light (sun, neon, street lamps, etc.).
We can therefore adjust the number of passes and the background colour depending on the desired effect:
The following products exist in several formats. All are semi-transparent grey liquids. This means that they provide low coverage: for example, the background colour will not be hidden if you apply two product coats. If you apply passes until saturation and full coverage, you will obtain a silver grey surface.
Since holographic paints are semi-transparent and composed only of retro-reflective particles, it’s important to choose the background colour:
The darker the background (e.g. black), the more intense and visible the prismatic effect.
On the contrary, the lighter the background (e.g. white), the more discreet the effect.
Holographic paints are single component, special fairly liquid paints, to be applied with a spray gun.
Generally easy to apply, the finest types (Spectrum) have some application constraints.
If they are properly applied and topcoated, they produce amazing effects.
These visually impressive finishes have the advantage of showing high UV and temperature resistance. They can therefore be used for all coatings in the automotive, architecture, furniture, household appliances or accessories fields.
Holographic paints are 1K Basecoats. The gloss topcoats enhance and maximize their sparkling effect and depth. It’s also possible to use satin or mat clear coats for more natural metallic effects.
The three products available represent 3 different qualities: the finer the particles, the more their price increases.
Stardust is the European specialist for the manufacturing of these specialties, and offers you the widest choice of prismatic paints.
