you need special solutions to give bright colors and reflections to attract fish, as well as high gloss and excellent resistance for fish teeth.
Our special effect paints are especially suitable for decoys:
It is impossible to list all our effects here, but we have prepared a nice selection of the main products for your creations.
Preparation of decoys
Whatever base you use, you can apply the paints, "special effects", and varnishes you want, as long as you prepare the surface correctly.
We offer anti-corrosion adhesion primers for raw materials such as metals, plastics, and also filler primers that are necessary to create a smooth and stable base.
Depending on the painter's preference, brushes, airbrushes, spray guns, spray cans are used...
Of course the best results are obtained by spraying.
At Stardust we mainly recommend the spray gun for painting decoys, why?
Very simply, a spray gun offers the possibility of using all the products, while an airbrush is limited.
A "mini" or "normal" gun sprays liquid or thick products, and the shape and size of the spray can be adjusted to paint a decoy.
Of course we do not recommend the use of a brush, for any of the steps from priming to varnishing.
Decoy Paint Choices
Stardust offers multi-coat colors to accentuate the hues and intensity of iridescent effects.
Both in water-based acrylics and solvent-based paints, we offer a wide range of special colors such as holographic, chrome, gold, fluorescent or phosphorescent effects ....
The composition of paints
To achieve the different colors on the body of decoys with the airbrush or spray gun,
some prefer to paint with water-based paints, while others like to use solvent-based paints.
The difference? The former are non-harmful and odorless, so they can be used indoors. The latter must be used in mini-cabins, or outdoors.
Topcoats for decoys
Varnishing has a dual function, both aesthetic and protective.
We have the techniques for ultra glossy, ultra hard finishes, with high levels of resistance.
The gloss is created by the varnish, it reveals the glitter, and enhances the colors.
The varnish is a top coat that protects the decoy from oxidation, water, salt, and also from fish teeth.
Stardust offers a wide range of varnishing solutions from epoxy resin, to water-based varnishes, to body varnishes.
