Order your paint with the color code of your car!
When you want to paint a touch-up on a part of your car, you need to find the color code for the vehicle's tint. This code designates a paint formula, a sort of recipe that will enable the paint store to reproduce the manufacturer's original tint.
Recognizing the color code on a Vin Plate is always a problem. Here, we explain how to recognize the color code for each make of car.
If you want to paint your entire vehicle, then your body painter will probably find the color code on your car. But if you decide to avoid the services of your garage, then you'll have to find the paint reference yourself. On this page, we'll tell you a little further down how to find your car color code.
Don't look on the registration card, because neither the color code nor the name of the color is on it. The color code can be found on a metal plate (Vin Plate) riveted to the car body in various places. There are many different references, and the information varies from brand to brand, and can often be confusing. For each make of car, we'll tell you exactly where to find this color-coded plate.
What makes up a car paint color code?
A car paint color code is made up of a few letters and numbers (between 1 and 4 characters). In general, if the reference you've found has more than 5 numbers or letters, then it's probably not the color code for your paint.
Here is an example :
079 is the Renault color code and ACIER MET is the color name.
► Driver's door interior
To reproduce the Peugeot paint, our technician needs to access the formula using a color code. Look for this color code on the bodywork of your Peugeot car. Although the color reference can be found in various places on the body, it's usually on the inside of the driver's door. It's not always easy to recognize the Peugeot color code at first glance: eliminate any references that are a little too long, and note all references that have between two and four numbers or letters between them. Chances are it's the color code. You can check this simply by contacting us, and we'll consult the database to confirm that it's indeed a color reference.
► Interior of passenger door
The color-coded plate for your vehicle can usually be found on the bodywork inside the passenger door. If you can't find the plate there, you'll easily find it on the inside of the driver's door, or sometimes even in the trunk. The color code is not always easy to recognize: eliminate all references that are a little too complex or too long, and isolate all references that have a maximum of 4 or 5 digits or letters. Some color codes have only 2 digits, while more complex ones have two digits and three letters. There are no set rules. In all cases, our colorimetry department is at your disposal to help you confirm your color code and prepare your Renault paint.
► Interior of the passenger door
The color code is a reference designating the Mercedes paint formula and is inscribed on a plate fixed to the bodywork. Depending on the model, this plate was located in different places. In general, you'll find the Mercedes color code plate on the inside of the passenger door. The color reference usually consists of two to four numbers or letters. Here's an example with the photo on this 2017 4x4 model.
► Driver's door:
Here's where to find the color code for the Alfa Romeo brand: in general, look inside the driver's door. There you'll find the plate, with the color code usually located in the upper right-hand corner next to “code color”.
This is generally a three-digit code. However, there are no fixed rules regarding the composition of Alfa Romeo paints color codes, in which letters or numbers may appear, with a total of between two and four alphanumeric characters.
► Location of the spare wheel in the trunk.
The location of the color code for Audi paints sometimes varies depending on the model. We invite you to start by looking inside the front doors and if you cannot find the plate there, then look in the rear trunk, near the spare wheel. Once you have found the plate or adhesive, you can look for the color code which usually consists of two to four characters, which can be either letters or numbers. If you have any doubts about the reference, do not hesitate to consult our color service by email.
► Interior of driver's door
For Citroën brand vehicles, you can easily find the Citroën paint color code on a plate, which is generally located in the driver's door opening. The color code, without any other indication, is normally made up of numbers or letters, with a total of two to four characters. If you found a code with five or more characters, it's probably not the color code!
In some Citroën models, such as the C4, you need to look inside the driver's door, on the bodywork, in the hinge area.
► Opening the front doors of the vehicle
For Ford cars, the color code is usually located in one of the two front door openings, either the driver's or the passenger's door. Here you will find a metal plate, or sometimes a sticker, with a series of references. In general, the Ford paint color code is a short, simple reference. The color code can be made up of numbers or letters, and is usually no more than three or four characters.
In some cases, the color code can be as simple as a letter or number. In the following example, the color code is “H”. If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact us, our color technicians are at your service.
► Interior of the driver's door
If you have a KIA car and want to know where the paint color code is, then you'll usually find it inside, in the driver's door opening, on the bodywork. You'll need to look for a plate where the references are written. The KIA color code is generally a very simple reference that cannot exceed four characters. This is often a set of numbers or letters. Once you have found this color code, it's easy to contact us and we'll mix your KIA paint to the manufacturer's formula.
► Passenger door on the bodywork
It is not difficult to find your Opel paint color code by looking it up on your vehicle. The color code is made up of a few numbers or letters at most, and is inscribed on the bottom left-hand corner of the plate usually fixed to the inside of the passenger door. If you find a reference with four, five, six or more digits, then you're probably looking at the wrong reference, because a paint color code should be a very short reference: no more than 3 or 4 alphanumeric characters.
► Rear trunk or trunk
It is common for you to simply find the color code plate in one of the two front door openings, but more generally, the information you are looking for, regarding the color code of your SEAT paint, can be found at the rear of the vehicle in the trunk. Among all the references that you will find on this plate or this adhesive, there's a good chance that the reference for your shade is a set of three or four letters or numbers.
► Passenger door interior
There's no hard and fast rule for the location of the color code in Toyota cars. Most often, you'll find this plate fixed to the bodywork on the inside of the passenger door. It's a black plate with various references, including the famous vehicle color reference. With this color code, we can search the database and prepare your Toyota paint. Please note that this reference cannot be made up of more than four or five characters. These can be either letters or numbers, as shown in the example here below.
► Engine compartment
When it comes to the color code for BMW paint, there are 2 possibilities, depending on the model. In most cases, the plate is located in the engine compartment on the right-hand side, or you can look on the inside door jamb. Among all the indications that you will find on the plate, the color code is made up of 3 to 5 letters and/or numbers, as you can see from the example here below:
► Doors and engine compartment
The location of the color code for Volkswagen paints can vary. These come in the form of labels, as you can see from the example above. To find this code in most models, it will be in the engine compartment: on the engine mount or in the fuse area, or on the inside pillar of the front doors. If not, it may be a sticker under the carpet or in the trunk, or on the side of the spare tire. This code if often made up of letters and numbers, between 2 and 4 characters long.
