Alfa Romeo colours are mainly pearl-based metallic colours, in the form of paint covered with a topcoat.
You can repair your Alfa Romeo paintwork using the colour code, the process is quite simple and can be done at home, even without being a professional bodybuilder. First of all, it will be a question of ordering the paint in a specialized store or in an online store, capable of carrying out the formula of the Alfa Romeo color code.
Then, the two phases of the painting are carried out easily and quickly, with the first stage of the metallic 1K basecoat, in a few thin and repeated layers, until obtaining the coverage of the bottom, followed quickly by the layer of topcoat, which provides shine and protection, both of the paint, the colours and the metal support of the bodywork, against corrosion, scratches and discolouration.
The shades of the Italian brand are famous in particular for their deep reds.
It is sometimes difficult to find the vehicle plate where the paint references are engraved. When this plate is found in certain places on the bodywork, for example inside the bonnet (see the following paragraph on this subject), you can then find different series of numbers which can be confusing.
To find the right reference that corresponds to the original vehicule colour, you have to look at the format of the colour code, which usually consists of three to four alphanumeric characters.
Some Alfa Romeo colour codes may be similar to colour codes belonging to other brands. It is for this reason that a colour code is always accompanied by a colourimetric designation, which takes the form of two to three words.
Example : 093A BORDEAUX
Thus, with this double system of colour code followed by a colour name, the entire international colour classification system of the various car manufacturers makes it possible to organise both the choice of colours, and to avoid errors or confusion.
The legendary Italian firm was born on June 24, 1910. Alpha is the Italian acronym for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili.
Since its creation, the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo has been widely involved in motor racing. It participated in many legendary races and won many trophies. The Italian manufacturer has always shown a certain charisma and a very marked creative spirit, with vehicles of unique design, combining both aesthetics and cutting-edge mechanics. In 1910, a four-cylinder engine with a 4-Litre displacement was produced. Of course, a far cry from today's modern vehicles, this big engine delivered 42 horsepower. However, this extraordinary vehicle for the time reached a speed of 100 km/h.
As with other car brands, it was after the Second World War that the explosion of the industry took place, with the accessibility of modern cars to the general public. For the past 20 years, Alfa Romeo has built an image of a refined and sporty car, originating in a country specialising in high-performance cars.
For ALFA ROMEO brand vehicles, the plate mentioning the Alfa Romeo paint color code (vinplate) can be found in two different places :
- Inside the engine compartment.
- Inside the rear cover.
You can take help from the images provided below which illustrate the location.
The colour code is always made up of three characters (letters or numbers).
Alfa Romeo bodywork paintwork is often made up of strong, lively colours, with very attractive pearlescent or metallic effects.

It seems that red is an emblematic colour of Italian brands, both for cars and for motorcycles, without naming a brand, but you will certainly know which ones we are referring to... Red is a main colour of the Alfa Romeo brand and there are over 40 red references in the Alfa Romeo database. The brand's latest models don an extraordinarily bright and deep red paintwork. We suspect that this type of colour is made with transparent shades, like Candy, but with the “builder sauce” ! Here are some examples of Alfa Romeo's best-known colour codes, in red hues :
134B ROSSO COMPETIZIONE
143 ROSSO AMARYLLIS
146 BORDEAUX CHIARO
148/A ROSSO CILIEGIA
148A ROSSO CILIEGIA
