THE INDISPENSABLE

what bike paint to apply ?Which paint to choose to paint your bike ?

The first two questions to ask yourself are: how do you apply the paint (with a spray gun?) and what color and effect do you want? : this allows you to properly prepare a bike paint Stardust Bike and choosing the right type of paint. What kind of paint should I use on my bike? First of all, it's absolutely essential to avoid spray paints sold in consumer outlets (we won't name any brands, but they are absolutely all of them ! ).

Only professional paints should be used. For a few euros more, or even double the price, you'll save yourself a lot of possible hassle, time and even the obligation to redo the work after a week or, at best, a year! And let's not forget the most important thing: the shine, appearance and resistance will be superior with professional quality products.

In conclusion, if there is no professional bodywork or industrial products store near you, order online from a specialist in customisation products.

Which bike paint should you choose for your bike ?

The background :
A primer suited to the surface you are working on (this could be carbon, aluminium, or plastic). Avoid universal, non-specialised primers and opt for a technical product instead.
If the surface is already painted (which is most often the case), use a filling or surfacing primer only if necessary.

The intermediate coat :
The paint used to repaint a bike can be either water- or solvent-based. Water-based automotive paints are very popular these days, as they are a little thicker and heavier. Their advantage is that you'll be doing something for the planet, and also for your lungs if you don't have a mask!
Solvent-based paints for bicycles are very thin varnish bases that dry quickly. They're a delight, and the ideal type for many artists to paint bicycles with.

The finish :
It is with it that the cyclist is the most demanding : it is asked for shine (or matte effect), finesse, resistance, in short, it is asked for everything !
In this area , know that epoxy does not exist, or else it is opaque and thick. (Epoxy is hard and it sticks, but it doesn't like the sun).
The best way to paint a bike in 2020 is a 2K polyester topcoat or 2K polyurethane acrylic topcoat, which shows the best mechanical resistance (just below the famous ceramic varnish*).

what bike paint to apply ?The most resistant paint for a bicycle

In this field, it's the clearcoat that takes everything on itself, and there are no absolute solutions: all that's agreed is that too much thickness is not recommended.
Two schools of thought : either start with the hard solution (resistant but brittle), or  start with the soft solution (no cracks but softer).
Addition of Flex agent additive is indeed a very effective solution to counter the impacts of gravel and stones.
On the other hand, there are ceramic varnishes of the Cerastar type which show hardnesses up to twice as high as car varnishes .

Flexible and matte varnishes

This is where we can salute the innovation and efforts of certain companies that have worked hard to successfully offer solutions that work. We hope to see these new finishes develop in the near future.
We are talking about the new super matt, thin and anti-scratch or self-repairing varnishes! Yes, it's real, because our team has tried them!
And also, flexible ceramic coatings (Cerastar F bendable at 180°), which beat hardness records while remaining flexible.
