Read moreBody Art is the art of body painting. It is one of painting specialties, known as temporary tattooing, or more frequently as Body Paint. It is an artistic form consisting in painting on the skin, on all or parts of the body and face, of naked or partially naked models.
In this art of body painting, we often use colors by playing with the natural curves and reliefs of the anatomy, to create decorative patterns where you can give free rein to your imagination. Often, some artists specialize in startling trompe l'oeil drawings, by reshaping some body parts and masking others.
The drawings and coloring of the skin is done with a brush, an airbrush and sometimes even a spray gun. With these last two ways, the artist can paint without touching the body, by spraying the paint on the surface of the skin. The latter becomes like a canvas the painter can express his creativity upon. Of course, these are temporary works ...
The paints used in Body Painting are particular. They do not contain any harmful components or pigments. Once dry, they don’t keep the skin from breathing. The quality of body paints for Body Art is rigorously controlled and these paints are considered as cosmetics, in the same way as makeup.
Body painting paints and inks are acrylics, containing glycerin but no solvents. They can easily and quickly be cleaned with soap and water.
The colors are obtained with pigments authorized for body art. These are only food colorings, the same you can find in drinks and food (E102, E110, E122 ...)
Models who are willing to become living frescoes, lend their bodies for a few hours to the artist. The model is quite often completely naked, and his nudity is gradually hidden by the paint, acting as a clothing.
Thus, body painting certainly has a hidden erotic side, as well as a sensual side, because it is practiced by lovers of human body beauty. There is also a humorous and slick aspect in this art where the inventive painter tries most of the time to surprise and misdirect the observer.
