Preparing the substrate
In most cases, this can simply consist of a light sanding, the usefulness of which is to create adhesion for the paint. For this reason, do not sand too fine or too coarse, use 500 grit sandpaper.
When the part of the DERBI motorcycle has suffered a shock or deep scratches, in this case- there, it is more about repair than preparation of the support: the mastic and the filling primer are used to recreate a smooth and perfect surface condition.
Take care to clean the part well before painting it : no humidity, dust, grease or other contaminants should be present even invisibly, as this would show up in the form of defects, in the later stages of painting and of the varnishing.

Applying Derbi paint
You have received your pot of manufacturer's paint with the Derbi color code: take care to mix it well, with a ruler to the bottom of the pot, or shake the pot vigorously for 30 seconds. Your Derbi paintwork probably contains mother-of-pearl or metal. To correctly apply this kind of motorcycle paint, you must always apply thin coats, with quick passages from left to right, then from right to left.
It is important to always check the support distance of the gun, which must not be too close or too far. Set medium pressure to spray the paint well.

Varnishing
This is the most delicate step and it is also the step that will crown all your work, by creating a beautiful shiny finish on the Derbi paint. The varnish must be applied directly after painting without waiting. Apply 2 glossy coats 10 minutes apart. The success of the varnish consists in applying the right dose: neither too much (risk of dripping), nor not enough (risk of orange peel effect).

The history of the Derbi manufacturer

Derbi is a motorcycle manufacturer of Spanish origin. This company is very old, since it is already one hundred years old in 2022. The name of the company comes from the Catalan language (DERivats de BIicicletes) with the beginnings of each word DER-BI.

Initially, the founder had a small workshop and his activity was the rental and repair of bicycles. His business turned out to be very successful and his success continued to increase, so much so that in 1946 the founder began to produce his own motorized version on two wheels, that is to say a real motorcycle.

The first Derbi 250 was presented to the general public at an international fair in 1950, just after the Derbi company was renamed "Nacional Motor Sa".

The Derbi manufacturer participated successfully in many speed races and won a number of championships, especially in the 70s and 80s.
Derbi was particularly successful with the small displacement of 50 and 125 cc.

Today, the Spanish motorcycle manufacturer Derbi is based near Barcelona and specializes in the production of all 2-wheelers, such as scooters and motorcycles, but also in the production of off-road vehicles of leisure.
