Ducati brand motorcycle color codes

We work with a computer colorimetry system that is regularly updated, thanks to our color laboratory located in Italy. We benefit from an advanced technological tool that allows us to achieve exact colors. Each formula is mixed to the nearest hundredth of a gram.

In our database, there are more than a hundred manufacturer codes for the Ducati brand.
These are essentially two-layer paints. The term "two-layer" indicates that it is a bodywork system on a motorcycle which is carried out in 2 layers: the paint followed by the clearcoat. It is the paint that creates the color and it is the clearcoat that creates the resistance and the gloss.

Some of the Ducati colors are 3-layer color codes. To the 2 classic coats of Ducati paint, a specific undercoat is added which is called the first coat or “first coat” in English. The superimposition of 2 paints, the first of which is generally opaque and the second transparent and/or pearly, gives visually superior color effects.

If your Ducati color code is a three-coat, you will therefore need to order a 2nd paint, in addition to the paint and clearcoat.

Do you need a primer under your Ducati paint ?
Yes, in some cases. Again, our colorist will contact you if a primer of a certain level of gray is required.

In many cases you can apply the paint directly to your old, 500 sanded bottom. apply a primer, in order to have a uniform and homogeneous background.

If your Ducati motorcycle fairing has stickers, or has deep scratches, in this case, there will be a lot of support preparation work. Because it will be necessary to perfectly level the surface before painting. This can be done by removing the labels and applying a filling primer.

The history of the manufacturer DUCATI

Ducati is one of the most famous brands in the world of motorcycling. This Italian manufacturer is based near Bologna.

The adventure began in 1926, when Antonio Ducati, helped by his 3 children, founded a technological and scientific company which developed numerous innovative patents.

They will build factories and develop, even during the Second World War, where they will continue to work despite the American bombardments on their factories. Their factories will finally be totally destroyed in 1944 during a joint raid by the Allied forces unfortunately.

The creative energy of the Ducati team is such that the activity picks up without even stopping, especially with the creation of a mini engine that they will mount on bicycles.

It was from this moment that the production of Ducati motorcycles began. These first bikes equipped with a motor are called "Cucciolos" and are capable of reaching 65 km/h. It will sell almost 200,000 from 1950.

In the 1960s, technology and advancements in the motorcycle world were well developed within Ducati, which was already producing some of the fastest racing motorcycles in the world with 250cc engines.

It is the beginning of a period of partnership with their competitor and friend CAGIVA, but also the beginning of speed races. Thanks to their high performance engine characterized by 4-stroke V-win engines, Ducati has a worldwide reputation.

Currently, the Ducati brand is owned by Lamborghini which itself is owned by Audi, whose owner is the Volkswagen group !

Where to find the color code of your DUCATI motorcycle ?

You won't find the Ducati color code, neither on the tank nor on the other parts of the bike, hidden somewhere. You can look on the official registration document of the motorcycle, you will not find there, neither the color code nor the name of the Ducati color.

Some specialized Ducati sellers and dealers will be able to help you, by carrying out some research, provided that it concerns modern motorcycles built after the year 2000.

For all Ducati models before 2000, some research is required. This is facilitated by the sharing of information on a global level on Internet forums specialized in the Ducati brand.

Our work as a colorist is limited to creating colors according to a formula. In most cases, we cannot help you find your code, because our databases have a large number of similar color codes and it is impossible to know which corresponds to a motorcycle model.

The emblematic colors of Ducati motorcycles

You can clearly say that Ducati's signature color is red.
However, don't think it's that easy, as there are a number of Ducati reds.
There are opaque reds, which are also called "solid", but also more modern reds, with pearly and metallic tones.
