Each of our paints is available in a solvent-based version (professional flammable paints) intended for spray application or delivered in a 400ml aerosol.
The ordering method is simple on our online store :
• go to the product page below 'Gilera paint base matt version'
• choose the packaging from the drop-down menu you need*
• continue with the choice of shipping method and online payment
• indicate the Gilera color code by email after ordering or in the box provided, during the basket phase
*To know the quantity of paint you need, it's very simple, count about 250 ml of ready-to-use paint for 1 m².
As an example, a complete motorcycle with little fairing requires 500 ml, while a sports motorcycle with a lot of fairing requires 1 liter. For touch-up paint on a single part (mudguard or tank), 250 ml may be sufficient.
Of course, painting alone is not enough to achieve painting on a motorcycle. Modern matt overcoat paints still require bodywork clearcoat. This clearcoat is resistant not only to bad weather and abrasion, but also to hydrocarbons. It is a two-component varnish and it is available from us in a pot or an aerosol (see the related products at the bottom of the page).
Preparing the substrate for painting a touch-up on a motorcycle or a complete painting is the most important phase.
If your motorcycle has suffered a few shocks, then it is probably the application of a sealant on the metal or even sometimes plastic parts. In this case and also when there are deep scratches, it is necessary to apply a primer. In this case, we are not talking about an adhesion primer, but about a "filling surfacer" primer.
Filling primer is a thick product that will help to level. It is intended to be largely sanded. It has a second function, that of creating a homogeneous color background. We also offer it in white and black, but also in 3 shades of grey, formulated according to RAL colors or references.
When ordering the Gilera color code, our colorist will contact you by phone, if necessary, to tell you which primer is recommended or required, under your Gilera paint.
In some special cases, it is necessary to apply a 3rd coat, in addition to paint and varnish. This is the specific undercoat, which exists for certain Gilera motorcycle colors, which is called the tri-coat paint.
In any case, our team takes care of you and we provide technical service 7/7 by email. It is imperative on your side to fully read the product presentation page which contains all the information concerning the application of Gilera color code paint, its mixing, and its varnishing.
Gilera is one of the oldest Italian motorcycle manufacturing companies. It was born at the beginning of the automobile adventure, that is to say in the first years of the 20th century. Its founder was called Giuseppe Gilera and he gave his name to his company which survived him after his death in 1971.
Gilera was the first motorcycle manufacturer to exploit the new technology at the time, in 1935, of the most powerful engine, in this case a 60 horsepower, 4-cylinder engine mounted on its Gilera 500 racing motorcycles, during the Grands Prix and motorcycle races, particularly in 1939.
At the time, Gilera engines were technologically advanced compared to all those of competing manufacturers. Their motorcycles can reach 230 km/h of speed which is phenomenal for the time. Gilera operates in a so-called large-displacement motorcycle sector, with engines between 100 and 500 cubic centimeters. The engines are super charged with turbo and water cooling.
The adventure of competition and motorcycle racing ended suddenly in 1957.
The Gilera motorcycle manufacturing company was acquired by the Piaggio group in 1969 and 1992. The parent company will put Gilera back into the world of grand prix racing this year, under the name Gilera.
Strangely, there is no specific place or place, where one can find the color code of a Gilera motorcycle. It is not possible to discover the code by looking on the engine or any part of the fairing. This color code is also not present on the registration documents of the motorcycle. You can only discover it on the original booklet of the motorcycle.
Without this information, you will not be able to order the paint. It is therefore imperative to find your Gilera color code, and this may be possible by browsing the various specialized Gilera forums on the Internet, in particular the Italian and American forums. And the ultimate solution is to contact your local dealer, asking them to provide this valuable information.
Our role as a paint manufacturer is limited to the formulation of colours. We have a large database with formulas, but we do not have a physical color card, because in truth there is none. To know how a color looks, we have to make it according to the formula.
We can help you validate a code by checking on our software its existence and sometimes its availability, because not all Gilera brand colors have been matched. Of course, the Italian manufacturer Gilera does not communicate its color formulas. All paints are matched one by one, from model samples. For this reason, the colors of some vintage motorcycles are difficult to obtain, as there are no model samples.
Among the hundred or so manufacturer colors from Gilera's motorcycle factories during its existence and activity since 1950, there is no particular emblematic color.
There are old tints and modern tints, which differ in that they are either opaque or composed of pearlescent or metallic pigments (generally for colors after the year 2000).
In general, but it is not the absolute rule, Gilera color codes begin with 3 letters GIL followed by 5 numbers.
Each Gilera color code is accompanied by a name or commercial designation, which can also be used to find or validate the color.
