After having dismantled the various parts to carry out the painting and after having ordered the color made according to the color codes of American motorcycles, especially the color code of Indian® motorcycles, you can embark on the work of retouching or complete painting on your motorbike.
The choice of your paint is very important and before ordering your motorcycle color, you need to find out the Indian color code present on your fairings. Once in possession of the paint reference, you can check with us that this Indian color code is indeed available (in the form of a formula) in our database. It may happen that a color is not registered in our database because it is too old or in some cases too recent.
The ordering method is simple and fast online : simply choose the pot or the aerosol, in the product page below: "Indian paint in matt base version".
Select the quantity you need to paint your part or the complete motorcycle (allow about 250 ml per approximate square meter. A 1L kit can be enough to paint a complete motorcycle).
Put the color reference in the box, in the "basket" page or more simply, by sending us an email, after completing the order. We are very quick to prepare orders : if your color order reaches us before 3 p.m., it will be mixed immediately by the colorist and dispatched by 4 p.m. Deliveries are guaranteed in 24 hours in France or 48/72 hours in European countries.
Our manufacturer paints are perfectly similar to the original colors of the American manufacturer. We use formulas and produce mixtures with great precision, i.e. to the nearest hundredth of a gram.
Our colors are supplied in a solvent-based version. These are professional quality paints that offer greater finesse and faster drying. Compared to water-based body paint, their aging is much slower and their lifespan extends beyond 15 to 20 years.
To apply them, you must hire a professional painter. However, you can perfectly apply them yourself and achieve the same level of finish. For this, choose an area of your garden, a day with a moderate temperature between 15 and 25 degrees and especially a day without wind. Wet the surroundings well to prevent dust from flying into the polish. You can also work in the garage provided there is sufficient air circulation to evacuate paint aerosols. Always respect the safety actions for handling and application.
Indian color code paint is easy to apply. It must be stirred well before use and it is ready to use, except for the bulk versions, in which the supply of the dilution product is separate. The secret to applying Indian paint correctly, especially if it's a pearl or metallic shade, is to spray very thin coats one minute apart, until the bottom is covered.
For Indian manufacturer tints, it is sometimes necessary to have a specific background. Our colorist will call you in such a case to offer you a primer. What is imperative in all cases is the application of bodywork clearcoat over the Indian paint. This varnish must be applied in 2 layers quickly after the application of the paint in order to guarantee a good grip between the layers.
In the same way that the ancestor of cars looked like a tricycle at the beginning of the 20th century, for any of the great brands of manufacturers that we can know today, so did the ancestors of the modern motorcycle : most motorcycle manufacturers began by manufacturing bicycles, on which they gradually adapted motors.
The founding of the Indian company dates back to the year 1897 and its founder was George Hendee. He was a bicycle manufacturer. The founder was also an avid cyclist and he gave the name "American Indian" to his bikes, then quickly it was reduced to "Indian".
The Indian bicycle was already exported at the end of the 19th century. However, after fitting mini-motors to his bikes, sales quickly exploded and the company's growth multiplied over the next ten years. By 1913, 32,000 units had already left the manufacturing plants.
Indian motorcycle engines also grew rapidly in size to reach 1000 cc in 1916 with a top speed approaching 100 km/h. This marked the beginning of the motorcycle racing adventure for the Indian manufacturer which was marked by success in various competitions.
During the First World War, the first customer became the American army, to the detriment of the entire resale network that had been developed by Indian. It is in this period and just after the war, that the competitor Harley-Davidson will take the first position in the USA in front of Indian.
During the Second World War, the Indian manufacturer had already become a solid, well-established manufacturer. The company will develop models specifically for the US military and will benefit from experience and technology. It is one of the only companies that will not go bankrupt during its history and especially during the Great Depression.
During the 21st century, it was the acquisition by "Polaris Industries" that marked the most important step. The style and spirit of the Indian brand are of course retained and new models will see the light of day with the impetus and dynamism of the new owner, such as the "Springfield", the "Chieftain" or the "Scout", respectively in 2016, 2014, and 2015. But many other models will emerge each year, with the latest, the "Challenger Dark Horse" which, in 2020, is equipped with 122 horsepower.
Like all motorcycles, you cannot find a color code on the different parts of the fairing or the engine. The information is also not noted on the identification papers of the motorcycle.
Find the Indian color code on the motorcycle's original booklet or by going to the dealership to request this information.
It's common for dealers to pretend they don't know the information. It is also rarely easy to obtain its Indian color code. However, with a little perseverance, especially when dealing with your dealership, you can get the color code.
We also recommend visiting and browsing the various American Internet forums, where a great deal of information is shared, particularly about brand colors. This is useful for difficult to identify color codes, especially for the very old motorcycle.
For the Indian Modern motorcycle, especially the models that have emerged in the last 2 years, the color codes are rarely already matched. It takes some time for the labs of the different paint brands to spot and then reproduce the colors.
Some of the colors of the American manufacturer Indian are better known than others. Often, they are designated by the names of colors, more than by color codes. The most frequently ordered Indian colors are :
• Arizona Turquoise
• Cobalt Blue Metallic
• Dragon Green
• Steel Gray
• Gray Cloud Metallic. ..
The color name is one of two ways to designate a tint. The other way is to know the color code, for which here are some examples from our database :
0001 WILLOW GREEN INDIAN MOTORCYCLES 2011 -
0002 IVORY WHITE INDIAN MOTORCYCLES 2011 -
639 INDIAN RED INDIAN MOTORCYCLES 2017 -
C RED INDIAN MOTORCYCLES 2009 -
P646 IVORY WHITE INDIAN MOTORCYCLES 2011 -
There are of course hundreds of color references, and unfortunately, not all of them are referenced in our color bases, nor matched.
If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact us by email (colors@stardustcolors.com).
