The rim accessories are tools and consumables for body paints. For spray or aerosol painting of a rim, it is necessary to have the following accessories
For those who use spray paints, the aerosol handle is far from being an optional gadget, as it makes the use of an aerosol can much easier, and almost allows you to paint and adjust the pressure like with a real gun !
The abrasives you need range from 180 or 220 grit for sanding putties, to 800 grit (never more ! Because beyond that you're off the hook!). These are abrasive sheets that can be used dry, or soaked in water for a better result.
In the case of rays, or very difficult shapes, the solution of abrasive sponges is really extremely practical, because it scratches the surface creating a grip, in a few seconds.
The dust wipes come into action a few seconds before painting. It is a small square of sticky cloth, which leaves no residue on the surface, but which will be able to capture any dust or sanding powder left on the surface.
Adhesives are used to hide, mask areas, or even to make decorations or line graphics.
The rim supports are reserved for professionals who frequently paint car or motorcycle rims. This equipment allows the rims to be placed and rotated in an ideal way. In rotation, the rim is painted with ease and regularity.
Without support we advise to position the dismantled rims off the ground, to avoid dust projection, and not to put them on a support in order to avoid the "rebound" of the paint on the rim.
The choice of spray gun depends a lot on individual preferences. Some people prefer mini spray guns, as they are said to be easier to handle. Others prefer in all cases, standard nozzle spray guns (from 1.3 to 1.5mm) which allows to use any product without over-diluting the product.
To paint in an optimal way, one must be flexible with the wrist. It is advisable to paint a 45° pass to the right, then a 45° pass leaning to the left, and to rotate the rim on a rotating axis.
The yield and consumption when planning to paint a rim is quite difficult to calculate. Basically, one can draw a square around the rim and estimate this area in m² at least ! Yes, there are quite a lot of losses when painting rims with a spray gun.
Car rims are painted on one side only, the outside, while motorcycle rims are always painted on both sides.
