The IWATA airbrush, probably the best-selling and most used in the world, and among the airbrushes for artistic drawing on canvas, it is clearly in the top 3 favorite airbrushes of the best international artists.
The ANEST IWATA brand is internationally renowned for its precise and rigorous airbrushes. IWATA airbrushes also offer a wide range of different models that cater to beginners, intermediate painters and also airbrush virtuosos.
The price ranges are quite high and range from 100 to more than 500 euros for some models.
It can be noted that the technicality of these quality tools is accompanied by a certain complexity, with a very large number of components. Each model is accompanied by a technical sheet with the detailed plan of the spare parts. For the latter, it is possible to order them from Iwata, through Stardust.
For artistic drawings on canvas, we will tend to choose a medium or fine airbrush, that is to say the precision models, while for the paintings of miniatures, models or model vehicles, we will choose the airbrushes with medium or large nozzles, with larger capacity cups.
Let's review the IWATA airbrush models from cheapest to most expensive.
The first prize is represented by the airbrush for beginners, the Iwata Neo with its 0.35 mm nozzle (medium to large size) and a price around €99.00.
We go directly to the IWATA Eclipse airbrushes, excellent gravity (0.35 mm) or suction (0.5 mm) airbrushes, all terrain, and particularly suitable for model making. Prices range from €150 to €180.
We go upmarket, for experts in the field of drawing or painting on miniature with the Hi-PERFORMANCE series, in particular with offset bucket, around 260 euros, then the Hi-Line series, a real tool for high precision for artistic drawings.
The pinnacle of the IWATA range is represented so far by the "Custom Micron" series with 0.15 mm nozzles, 0.18 mm for the CM-C2 (the most expensive of the brand with prices of more than 450 €), and also a 0.23 mm nozzle, less extreme, around 420 €.
You must first count with an IWATA hose because each brand has its own hose and screwing system.
Next, a system of quick couplings is strongly recommended so as not having to screw or unscrew your airbrush !
The choice of compressor: all types are suitable for painting small areas. The size, noise and capacity of the air tank must be taken into account. One can, to paint miniatures or precision drawings, be satisfied with a compressor without a tank.
The art of the airbrush, and in the first place the mastery of the tool, its disassembly, its cleaning, its repair, its reassembly, its adjustment, in short... all this is quite difficult, so as not to want to add problems that come from a poor quality airbrush. So, if you have the means, you choose a branded airbrush.
If, on the other hand, you detect a tendency to not take care of your tools and you are not meticulous, it is better to turn to a first-price tool to subject it to all kinds of torment.
