Sofubi Drying
Sofubi paints are fast drying and the painted pieces can be handled and are completely dry after 1 hour.
Resistance
Vinyl paint, once dry, creates a thick, tough coat with a glossy, plastic-like appearance. These are satin finish colors : they do not need to be varnished to resist scratching. These Vinyl type paints are flexible and ultra resistant.
Adhesion on PVC
The term Sofubi in Japanese refers to the material from which the dolls are made. Hikari Toys series paints are easy to apply to shiny soft vinyl toys, providing outstanding adhesion.
SOFUBI paints are specially designed to create a powerful direct adhesion to the surfaces of PVC, Sofubi, etc. toys. No primer and no special preparation required.
The colors of the paints are obtained with a selection of the best micronized pigments resistant to Uvs.
The HIKARI® Toys range offers a series of colors for Sofubi artists :
• Series of mono-pigmentary primary colors to be mixed to develop a large color chart
• Secondary color series
• Metallic color series
• Special effect series
• Auxiliaries
About Sofubi or Toy Art :
« Toy art » painting is an artistic practice of the « hobby » world known as « sofubi », « kaiju » or paintings on PVC vinyl doll and toy.
The origin of the word Sofubi comes from the name of the material in Japanese, soft PVC vinyl which refers to the particular type of plastic : SOFUTO BINIIRU « ソ フ ト ビ ニ ー ル »
The world of Sofubi comes from the Japanese fantasy imagination and its very rich and colorful tradition.
This universe of Toy Art applies to terrifying monsters that are referred to as « kaijus » ( a well-known example is Godzilla), fantastic creatures from manga, superheroes « Tokusatsu » or « Sentai », or also imaginary beings, half-man, half-beast, half-robot…
Toy Art painting is practiced by a handful of collectors who are passionate about this somewhat obscure art.
It is estimated that there are about a hundred professional painters in the world who specialize in this discipline of painting on toys and dolls, either occasionally or full time.
Some works of Art Toy can be "collectors" and can easily reach several hundred euros, or even more...
Sofubi type dolls and figurines are painted with characteristics that are sometimes scary and sometimes friendly.
The models are made by molding flexible PVC plastic, transparent or opaque type.
They are then intended to be painted and customized, with a spray gun or airbrush, but also with a fine brush for the details.
Vinyl paints are solvent-based paints.
They have a certain odor and their use must be done with a protective mask and a mini extraction cabin.
