A special gun allows, by means of pressurized air and a nozzle, to spray a liquid product in the form of a regular mist and to project it towards the surface.
You need a special tool when you want to project a special product.
The product in question, when it is not a lacquer, a primer, or a varnish, it can be a thick product, such as "blaxon", or a powder product, such as glitter (Metal Flakes) or various powders (such as reflective micro-beads), or liquid chemicals to make chrome plating by silvering for example.
For the projection of glitter, we use different types of simple and economical tools for sandblasting, which work very well to send large quantities of polyester glitter on surfaces, adjusting of course the pressure to the minimum.
In the field of Custom paint, we use the English term "Flakebuster":
Flakebusters come in different sizes, from the "mini" to connect to an airbrush, to the big flakebuster, which can be used to sequin a complete boat !
It is in the art of chrome plating with chemicals that the most specific special guns are used: the liquid chemicals are sprayed on the surface by means of special guns with double nozzles, which "mist" two different reagents that meet outside the gun.
For the mirror effect silvering technique, it is not important to atomize the liquids : you can use simple, effective and above all very economical sprayers, made of plastic parts, which do not guarantee any reaction with ultra-sensitive components of chemicals.
These are coarse and very economical tools, mounted with 1 cm nozzles ! We are far from the precision tools that we can meet in the art of airbrushing or car varnishing !
These guns are used to project viscous and thick materials such as temporary or permanent anti-gravel coatings, or even products like the Raptor used to protect 4x4 or truck beds.
Each painter is reluctant to use a single gun to carry out all the different stages of their body painting work. In particular the spray gun for primer, which is a coarse product which is painted in thick layers, and which we will not worry about whether or not it contains dust or grains of dry paint. A painter always uses a gun with a large nozzle of 1.7 to 2.5 mm, of lower quality, which he reserves exclusively for spraying the various primers.
