It is thanks to aluminium pigment that metallic car paint is produced.
Clearly, this is a remarkable achievement, after 100 years of use for coatings in the automotive industry. Manufacturers seem to have found here the ideal and perfect type of paint, capable of bringing together absolutely all the advantages :
- Undeniable aesthetic quality, thanks to this extraordinary pigment...
- High opacity and coverage thanks to the opaque properties of aluminium
- Total UV resistance, outstanding heat and corrosion protection
- Economy, thanks to this abundant material
Stardust goes far beyond the usual use in the world of pigments and coatings : As European specialists in effect pigments, we design exceptional and unique colors, with gold, pearlescent colors, with tones reminiscent of raw metals, from gold, bronze, chrome, to copper, and a series of pure ultra-bright aluminiums for "brushed or polished metal" effects.
Each specialty is produced without any tint, from ultra-fine particles (pigments) whose shape (perfect or coarse), size (from 5 to 80 micrometers) and type (flat, mirror, wavy, coated) vary to give silky or iridescent effects.
Stardust's range of metallic car paint uses new pigment technologies (VMP vacuum metallisation, "Silverdollars" aluminium, metallic pearlescent). These solvent-based metallic paints for cars offer a very rich choice of unusual metallic finishes, far beyond the classic metallic grey paint. They are intensely reflective, as the colors produced are solely the product of light reflection, thanks to the optical properties of the paints.
Not to be confused with gloss : This depends on the clearcoat, because the metallic finish is satin and can be over-coated with gloss, satin or matt clearcoats.
They are classified as metallic effects because they imitate the appearance of raw metals, such as bronze, gold, copper, however, gold metallic paint is mainly a pearlescent type of paint. These semi-opaque paints offer elegant and fine glitter and variable colors over black or white backgrounds. Some other gold paints (liquid gilding) use bronze pigments that perfectly imitate gold. Check out Stardust's unique range of pearlescent paints !
At Stardust, we essentially produce a pure type of aluminium metallic paint : i.e. no tint is added, and the aluminium flake floats alone in the "binder" ; the aim is to produce maximum light reflection.
As collectors of effect pigments, we are the only ones to produce rare aluminium paints, with very high-end pigments worth several hundred euros per kg, inaccessible to car manufacturers who prefer to use economical or mid-range pigments.
