About Stardust® Bike
Stardust bike is a new innovative range of paint that revolutionizes the customization of bikes. The French company Stardustcolors wanted to make available to the general public, these exceptional paints, usually reserved for professionals.
Among all the special effects offered, the Candy paint technique is one of the main ones.
Description of the CANDY technique :
It is a three coat technique, which consists in superimposing a black or white background, a reflective paint, metallic or pearly, and a clearcoat tinted in the mixture :
the whole creates a coloration of the light that enters, crosses the colored clearcoat, bounces on the reflective paint, and comes out, as a luminous and iridescent color.
The technique is easy and can be done by anyone
Choice of color.
As you have noticed, the color is the result of a unique combination : undercoat + Candy clearcoat
The result of the color is also variable because it will depend on the number of coats of Candy clearcoat. The more coats you apply, the darker it becomes.
> Choose the metallic or pearlescent background color. We recommend using the BC1 undercoat
> Choose the color of the Candy clearcoat on this page.
Application
the 3-step process
White or black base |
Metallic paint |
Candy colored clearcoat |
1 / Base or black background
This background is very important : It must be of a homogeneous color, and imperatively black, with the exception of the white metallic paint which needs a white background.
If the background is uneven, or if the background is bare (aluminum, carbon, steel) then it is necessary to apply in this case a specific primer adapted to the nature of the support
Otherwise we simply apply a Graphic base paint which will serve as a plain black or white background.
2 / metallic or pearlescent paint
Apply the undercoat of the candy clearcoat, i.e. the metallic or pearlescent paint, with 3 to 4 thin coats, in order to cover the black background.
Without waiting more than 20 minutes, apply the candy clearcoat
Varnishing the bike
Trigger the hardener.
Apply 3 coats, allowing 7-10 minutes between each coat, to avoid drips and allow minimal drying of each coat.
The candy bike paint spray should be used within 30-45 minutes maximum after release !
The paint is resistant, it dries to 80% in 24 hours, and achieves optimum hardness after 7 days.
Re-varnishing and stickers
If you want to put logo stickers, under the Candy clearcoat, then the stickers will be colored. It is therefore necessary to put them on the clearcoat sanded, and dry, then revarnish with a clear clearcoat for bike
Metallic spray paint performance
1 aerosol spray = 1 m² / 1 coat
i.e. you need 2 to 3 sprays to varnish a bike depending on the intensity of the color you want.
