Metallic paints give rough or colored metal style effects, thanks to their texture and color.
It is thanks to the metallic pigments they contain, not dyes, that the color is created. This is a specificity of Stardust paints, which are based on pure metal or mother-of-pearl.

The choice of color :
Is done by email after order. Color chart available at the bottom of the page.
Offer :
Our complete metalized bike kit allows you to paint a complete bike (frame and fork).
It is proposed in two versions :
metallic aerosol can kit* 2 black / or white base aerosol cans 3 aerosol cans of metallic paint to choose from 2 spray cans of varnish * the offer contains the minimum quantity required. It must be taken into account that an aerosol can contains 75% gas. |
metallic canned kit* 250 ml black base 300 ml of metallic paint to choose from 800 ml varnish (500 ml UHS varnish, 175 ml normal hardener, 125 ml thinner) * Spray application |
General and important explanations :
Metallic paints are semi-transparent, so they need either a black or white background (supplied in the kit). Complete background colours at the bottom of the page (PDF chart)
All the paints in the kit are « 1K basecoats »: they dry quickly and should be applied afterwards (within 30min max) to adhere well to each other. If you want to make decors, you must let them dry for at least one hour, then sand with 500 or with an abrasive sponge. A « resistant paint » is composed of coats that adhere to each other.
All paints are ready to use, except the varnish which mixes just before use.
Steps of the painting work
Step 1/ Substrate preparation
On old paint, lightly sand with P500 paper.
If the old paint is uneven, or badly damaged, then apply a spray or canned primer surfacer.
Of course if the bottom is bare carbon, or bare metal, the carbon primer or metal primer must be used.
You can find on our site the primers in can or spray.
Degrease and remove dust
Step 2/ painting the base
Paint the black or white background in a few fine passes, with 1 or 2 minutes interval for drying. Proceed to step 3 before 30 min.
Step 3/ painting the metallized
Paint very thin coats, and repeat the coats every 1 or 2 minutes, until the bottom is covered. Proceed to step 4 before 30 min.
Step 4/ painting the varnish
Mix 3 parts varnish to 1 part hardener. Thin by 5 to 15 % max. Apply two coats at 10 minute intervals. Then let dry 24 hours.
Once mixed, the varnish can be used for a maximum of 30 minutes, after which it hardens.
To increase the impact resistance, it is possible to add 2% flexibilizing additive in the clearcoat.
Looking for a color and can't find it ?
Maybe it is not really a metallic paint, but a pearlescent paint : for example, white is not a metallic, it is a pearlescent, the same goes for blue.
