More info

A motorcycle paint can be supplied in a water-based version (body painters use this version) or in a classic solvent-based version.
We offer BUELL paint in this latest solvent-based version, more precisely a single-component two-coat paint to be varnished.

Our professional solvent-based paints are suitable for decoration, touch-ups, or complete painting on hard or soft fairings of motorcycles.
Compared to water-based colors, our paints are easier to apply, thinner, faster to dry, and above all, they have a longer lifespan (+20 years)

We offer a large part of the BUELL color codes, manufactured in-house directly in our color laboratory. Upon receipt of an order placed before 2-3 p.m., we manufacture the BUELL factory color immediately, and we ship it for delivery to you within 48-72 hours.

Details of the offers:

Depending on the size of the paint pots intended to be applied with a paint gun, it is already diluted paint, or pure paint delivered with the thinner separately (the kits)

A pure paint must be diluted according to your preference between 50 and 70%

The yields and consumption

We apply approximately 120 g of diluted paint per square meter and per coat
1 liter of diluted paint covers approximately 4 to 5 m² of fairing In 2/3 coats, i.e. "finished color*"
250 ml of diluted BUELL paint largely covers 1 m²*

The yield is different for 400 ml aerosols: the content of an aerosol is 75% gas. An aerosol therefore contains 100 ml and can therefore cover 0.4 m² maximum

The professional painting system on motorcycle bodies

Very little paint today exists in a glossy finish lacquer version. For more than twenty years, the colors have been mostly metallic or pearlescent. This implies "two-coat" type paints.
Two-coat means 2 steps, with the application of the matt paint to be varnished, followed by the varnish

It is imperative to varnish the two-coat paint.

Here are the consumables and accessories needed to paint a motorcycle

  • cleaning thinner*
  • P500 sanding sheets*
  • degreaser*
  • sticky pad*
  • primer* (in some cases)
  • varnish (essential)

* Optional products

Should we use a primer?

It is not always necessary. We can perfectly do a small touch-up after sanding with 500 paper on the area. Use a primer, or more precisely a filling primer Becomes necessary when the bodywork has been repaired and putty has been applied. It is also necessary when there are scratches. It is also mandatory when there are different colors present in the background. The lighter a BUELL paint is, the more important it is to apply a primer.

Each BUELL paint reference recommends a specific color for the primer. We take care of checking this and providing you with the right color automatically, if you order a primer.

Sanding
It is primarily used to allow and guarantee adhesion. In general, if you make a small touch-up on a part, it is necessary to sand the entire part first. This does not involve stripping, but doing a light wet sanding. You should not sand beyond 500, because the adhesion is then no longer guaranteed.

Three-layer paint*
Sometimes (rarely) there are 3-step colours, in which case our colourist will contact you to tell you what you need to do and how to order this specific undercoat

Application

The bodywork must be perfectly sound before painting
To do this, sand, degrease and then dust
With a 1.0mm to 1.4mm gun and a pressure of around 2.5 bars
paint 2 to 3 coats With a drying time of around 5 minutes between each coat
this time varies greatly depending on the ambient temperature.

Always avoid applying thick coats
After applying the paint, prepare your varnish mixture and apply this varnish within 30 minutes of applying the paint.

Varnishing
A varnish is a glossy and transparent layer that provides a very high level of resistance, both to sunlight, bad weather, hydrocarbons and scratches.

We recommend using our UHS 830 varnish in a pot or aerosol
