How did water-soluble acrylic paints appear ? Since Directive 2004/42/EC, voted in 2004, VOC content limits in paints have been put in place. Many body paint manufacturers have had to completely revise the composition of car paint, motorcycle paint and bike paint to be able to continue to market their products in Europe, producing a new type of paint, water-soluble acrylic paint.
It is within the framework of the reduction of greenhouse gases, and the serious consequences in terms of global warming, that StardustColors is committed to reducing the use of solvents in paints.
Today, these new products have benefited from progress and innovation, and now show high efficiency with remarkable qualities in terms of drying, resistance, flexibility and ease of use.
Acrylic water-based paints have clearly bridged the gap between them and solvent-based paints. In the automotive field, the use of water-based paints is now widespread.
In the field of bodywork, these are paints based on new polyurethane acrylic resins. Indeed, just as there may be solvent-based acrylics or in aqueous phase, one can find water-based polyurethane products. Polymers and resins form the body of the paint. You can even add a hardener to these new water-based bases.
They use a main solvent : water. They certainly contain VOCs, even they are solvents that are not very harmful and present in quantities of less than 2%, compared to 35 to 70% for solvent-based paints.
It is much more pleasant and much less dangerous to paint with water-based paints. Given the absence of harmfulness of these paints, it is no longer necessary to protect yourself constantly with a mask, gloves and glasses.
As for cleaning, water-based paints are simply diluted with water, and tools are also rinsed with water.
