Exterior and interior floor paint – Epoxy floor paintPaint for concrete floors and other materials

One of the strongest families in terms of industrial paint for materials is the family of floor paints. They are commonly used in car parks, but also in industrial areas.

These are glossy, thick and very hard lacquers, whose main use is to protect floors against stains and dirt, to prevent the penetration of different liquids such as dirty water, oil stains, fuel. Thanks to their waterproof and shiny surface, the floor paints allow easy cleaning, using detergents, brushes or high-pressure washing.

In addition to floor protection, the paints are of course used to mark pedestrian zones, direction arrows or to color the different levels, for example in car parks.

Paint for exterior and interior floors: epoxy or acrylic ?

Whether for coating shower trays or concrete slabs, solvent-based paints are always used. These have excellent penetrating power in concrete, as far as the first layer is concerned. Finally, for the top coat, solvent-based paints are to date the most resistant products to abrasion, pedestrian or car traffic, or even the passage of machines, compared to water-based formulas.
Floor paints are subject to permanent aggression and it is therefore necessary to apply them in certain thicknesses in order to give them good resistance and good durability.
In general, 100µm dry is recommended, this which is quite important in the world of painting.
Currently, the formula that provides the best grip and the best resistance is epoxy. His paints are therefore mainly used in car parks and indoor basements or even hangars and factories.
Epoxy floor paints have a defect, they don't like the sun's rays, which cause them to turn yellow. For this reason, a variant of floor paints is used outdoors which is an epoxy acrylic formula, as acrylic offers an excellent level of resistance and total resistance to the sun.

There are different concrete surfaces and paint adhesion is not always obvious.
First of all, we recommend a dilution with a solvent in a measure of 20% more than normal, for the application of the first coat, in order to create a superior impregnation power.
In some cases, the paint cannot penetrate the concrete, this is the case with smooth concrete, with the so-called "helicopter" technique. In the latter case, the ground is so smooth and impermeable that it is necessary to first proceed with what is called pickling, which is carried out with an acid solution.

The different variants and options for painted flooring

Gloss paints are easy to clean and keep grime from clinging, but easily form very slippery surfaces when wet. It is easy to make them non-slip with the addition in the last layer of powder, for example corundum powder, or any other type of silica-type granules.
Thanks to the thickness of this floor paint, it is possible to create a retro-reflective effect, by simply sprinkling, when the surface layer is still wet, with reflective glass microbeads.
