When you see a completely chromed car, know that it is generally a covering (adhesive vinyl film). Compared to other types of car paint and other types of motorcycle paint, it is a simple and effective technique. Car paints also offer this possibility of obtaining a beautiful chrome effect: this represents a bold work but quite possible and this has moreover been achieved several times with Stardust car paints.
The only other technique, silvering, which is also offered by Stardust, is much more difficult to apply for a complete painting. But the feat has already been achieved. The secret is to build the vehicle one part at a time. We obtain a very high quality effect, but unfortunately which cannot resist UVs. The models that were made were therefore varnished with colors to circumvent the well-known problems of yellowing.
The question often comes up : do you have the right to drive around with such paint on your vehicle ? Do we risk a fine or can we pass the technical control ?
You should know that nothing is planned on this subject in the texts of law. It is simply specified that it is forbidden to dazzle other motorists.
Thus, the chrome parts must represent a reasonable part of the vehicle, but not the entire bodywork. Real chrome, as well as silver plating, is highly reflective and can reflect light like a mirror, which can perfectly blind other drivers.
But this is not the case with car paint with chrome effects, because this one has a fairly low reflection index: It is only a "silver colored mirror appearance"
If you want to customize a helmet, a motorcycle, choose the chrome effect paint, it's relatively easy to do and it really gives an excellent quality of finish. What's more, it's a perfectly UV-resistant product.
Forget about silver plating, unless you don't plan to park your motorcycle or scooter in the sun for hours on end.
For complete cars, opt for vinyl films that will save you hours of work and can be easily removed when you get tired of this very showy finish.
