How to draw on paper with airbrush ?

Artistic painting with an airbrush is carried out on many heterogeneous supports (body, automobile, cake, carousel...), and therefore we almost forget that the airbrush is an art technique like the others, which can be used on paper! This is the airbrush drawing on canvas.

We use sheets of fairly thick classic artistic papers with a thickness of at least 240g / m² very smooth, as well as Stardust pro water-based acrylic inks or paints. The only difference with the classic painting techniques such as watercolour, charcoal, pastel, oil... is that the airbrush is the only technique which consists in painting without ever touching the sheet !

Pure artistic airbrushing is a modern process, reserved for a class of experienced artists who are specialized in the handling of this very technical tool. The methods and know-how are also very particular. The result of the mastery of the tool and the skill in this art apart, they are impressive works of realism, difficult to differentiate from a photo.

There are experts in airbrush drawing on canvas, with a very high level of expertise in colors and realism effects. Among them, it is difficult not to mention Drew Blair (USA) and Marissa Osterlee (Netherlands) who are pioneers and talented artists, past masters in the art and technique of airbrushing.

Wall illusion

The airbrush allows you to do almost anything you can imagine. This extraordinary technique can be useful for decorative wall painting, with the creation of frescoes, imitation of materials such as wood or marble, or the creation of trompe l'oeil. The artist can show imagination and ingenuity with the airbrush, using it freehand, or with stencils to produce beautiful, multi-layered works.

Clouds and skies

Although you can achieve very beautiful skies painted with a brush or a brush, there is no better technique than the airbrush for painting and imitating clouds. The airbrush directly creates an impression of disturbing realism. For large surfaces, you can also use paint guns.

To paint a sky with an airbrush, we start with a colored background (for example blue) on which we will work with shades of white, in transparency or in thickness, to create the light texture of the clouds. Adding gradients or reflections in the clouds, with the colors yellow, pink, purple, morning sky or sunset, is very easy with this spray technique.
