Among the various chroming solutions available, there are specific cases where these easy-to-use products provide stunning results, even for those with no painting experience. It’s very simple: when the object’s usage conditions allow it, a chrome paint type GO chrome can be used.
If the object—be it a chandelier, a statue, or an ornament—is not subjected to frequent handling, friction, or abrasion, then a resistant paint or varnish is unnecessary. When working with mirror-effect paint, the most delicate and problematic phase is the varnishing step, as it is well known to diminish some of the mirror effect in exchange for added protection.
If the piece is not exposed to frequent handling (although occasional manipulation and transport are possible) and is not subjected to outdoor weather conditions such as rain or humidity, then this chroming solution is the simplest and most effective.
For those who do not have spray guns or specialized tools, we recommend using aerosol spray paint. The results will far exceed those achieved with a brush or roller. A spray application allows the paint to be applied without physically touching the surface, eliminating unwanted marks.
With an aerosol, a mirror effect can be achieved in just seconds. Not only is the application method incredibly simple, but surface preparation is also minimal: no primer is needed, almost all material types are compatible, and no sanding is required. The paint adheres directly, and the chrome effect appears almost magically!
This type of paint takes time to fully cure. For hanging or non-touchable objects, this is not an issue. Full curing may take several days or even weeks, and the hardness of any paint increases over time.
An object coated with this type of paint becomes touchable after 24 hours. It can be moved, touched, cleaned, and dusted without leaving marks. After a few weeks, the paint hardens significantly, making it possible to clean it with detergents without affecting the chrome effect.
The mirror effect is achieved by positioning ultra-fine, ultra-flat aluminum flakes in a perfectly smooth layer. This aluminum mirror-like film sits on the surface, as this floating paint technique is designed to maintain an extremely thin layer—just a few microns thick (a few thousandths of a millimeter). Because of this, the ultra-thin metallic coating can be easily removed with a simple finger rub if excessive pressure is applied.
A varnish layer provides effective protection against humidity and contact. However, varnishing is a delicate process that should ideally be done with an airbrush or a spray gun equipped with a fine nozzle. The varnish used must be glossy, though its composition is not critical—it can be solvent-based or otherwise.
