*What are 1K basecoats ?
These paints are also called « two-coat » because they work in 2 coats / 2 steps : 1K basecoat + topcoat. Once varnished, they are perfectly resistant to bad weather conditions (heat, cold, sun, rain)

All Ford colours delivered in 48 hours
Offers, packaging and coverage :

Ford paints are supplied pure, to be diluted with the thinner supplied in the kit, except for the 250 ml and 500 ml cans which are supplied pre-diluted :
pure paint coverage*: 10 m² / L and per coat
Coverage of pre-diluted paint : 6 m² / L and per coat
coverage of 400 ml aerosol spray paint : 0.5 m² max
* the thinner is not included in the coverage

PAINTING A Ford VEHICLE : HOW TO APPLY A « 1K BASECOAT » :
PREPARE THE BACKGROUND WELL :

It is not always necessary to apply a primer. Often a simple light sanding of the old paint is sufficient (800 grit paper), to allow adhesion.
Dry off any moisture, degrease with our degreaser, (to avoid reactions due to invisible contaminants), remove all traces of degreaser with a clean, dry cloth, then pick up the dust with our sticky wiping pad.

THE PRIMER :
It is recommended to apply a car body primer only in certain cases :
When the old paint is damaged and scratched
For certain manufacturer's colours ("3-coat" colours), which need to be painted over a coloured primer of a particular GREY because they are pearlescent or semi-transparent. For peace of mind and to ensure even and faster coverage, use our Stardust FAST no-sanding primer (available in various shades of grey). For badly damaged or puttyed backgrounds, apply our sanding filler primer
For those 3-coat colours that require this additional undercoat, our technician will contact you in order to propose the correct colour of the first coat

MIXING :
For pure paints, add about 70% of the thinner supplied with the kit (70 parts in addition to the 10 parts of paint)
For thinned paints 250 or 500 ml, simply stir.

APPLICATION :
Check this page for the PDF data sheet in red to download at the bottom of the page
1K solvent-based basecoats are particularly easy to apply : they can be applied with all types of spray guns, using thin coats (approx. 1.0 to 1.4 mm)
The thinner they are, the faster they dry, and therefore the shorter the time between coats : at 20°C the coats are applied almost in a row, while at cold temperatures you wait 5 minutes. It is recommended to paint between 15 and 30°C.
Professional application method recommended :
A very thin pass (to see possible defects)
one (or two) coat(s) with an interval of 5 min
For pearlescent/metallic : finish with a half coat with less pressure and a little more distance from the substrate

APPLYING THE TOPCOAT :
Varnish after 15 minutes, with any of our bodywork topcoats
There is no need to wait to paint, as after 30 minutes, adhesion is theoretically no longer possible.
Among our wide range of car topcoats, we offer BS 830 UHS, a high quality topcoat, reliable and easy to apply, durable and resistant

Car polish is available in aerosol clearcoat.
It is also available for those who use a paint gun, in a 875ml mini kitor in a 1.5L kit of 830 UHS car clearcoat.

If you would like to ask a question to the Stardust colourist, please send an email to colors@stardustcolors.com
(if you have a Ford colour code only)

If you don't know your colour code, where can you find it on your car ?
The colour code is noted on the bodywork of the car in certain places specific to each car and brand

*For a Ford vehicle : PREMIUM quality and durability
As opposed to common automotive paints, which are higher in evaporable solvents (VOC), StardustColors provides a premium quality HS (High Solid) car paint that provides the painter with better coverage, greater thickness and superior resistance. StardustColors has a unique colour matching system for the high precision formulation of Ford paint colours.

Other technical data
VOC g/L: <860 (diluted)

Storage of 1K basecoat car paint
Pure or diluted paints can be stored for well over a year
