More info

Chameleon paint on a guitar creates a spectacular special effect and is relatively easy to apply and achieve, even without prior experience in spray painting.

Chameleon is a pearlescent paint that creates colour through light reflection. The colour changes depending on the inclination of the piece or the viewing angle.

A chameleon paint thus offers multiple colours, ranging from 2 to 8, depending on the reference.

All chameleon paints can be explored in detail in the product category.

The colour chart and PDF brochure can be downloaded as an attachment.

Videos of all 40 colours are available in the video tab.

The complete chameleon guitar painting kit is available in two versions :

  • In cans : for application with a spray gun

  • In aerosol cans : for application without equipment

Here are the details of the offer and the products included in the complete Chameleon Guitar Painting kit.

Mixing the Products

AEROSOLS

The primer and clear coat aerosols are two-component products: the red button at the bottom of the aerosol must be pressed to activate the hardener. After activation, the product can be used for one to two hours maximum.

The chameleon paint aerosols are ready to use.

PAINTS IN CANS

The primer and clearcoat are two-component products. They should only be mixed in the required quantity, along with their respective hardeners.

Primer : Mix 4 parts primer + 1 part hardener. Thin by 10–15%. Pot life: 2 hours at 20°C.

Chameleon Paint : Pre-thinned and ready to use.

Clearcoat : Mix 3 parts clearcoat + 1 part hardener. Thin by 10–15%. Pot life: 2 hours at 20°C.

* Mixing can be done using a scale, or simply by volume with a graduated mixing cup.

Application of Chameleon Paint on a Guitar

Step 1: Apply the Primer

This is a thick product that can be applied in 1 to 3 coats, depending on the requirements and surface condition. The purpose of this product is to level, impregnate, and fill small imperfections.

Once fully dry (2 to 4 hours), sanding must be performed using a P500 abrasive sheet with a little water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Once a perfectly smooth surface is achieved, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Apply the Chameleon Paint

The chameleon paint must be well stirred before use. It should be sprayed in thin coats using a spray gun or in ‘quick’ coats using an aerosol. The paint dries very quickly, allowing for multiple thin coats to be applied with very short intervals between them. The aim is to apply as many thin coats as necessary to cover the black base coat. Never apply thick coats.

Once applied, immediately proceed to the final step, the clearcoat.

Step 3: Apply the Clearcoat

The clearcoat is a thick and glossy product. This is the most delicate step, requiring the application of two glossy coats.

Achieving a flawless clearcoat finish depends on applying the correct amount of product and respecting the appropriate interval between the two coats. The clearcoat is always applied in two layers, with a waiting time of 7 to 10 minutes between them, depending on the temperature. In colder conditions, this interval can be extended to 15 minutes.

Two clearcoat aerosols are provided in the kit, allowing for two applications :

Day 1: Apply two coats.

Day 2 (after drying and sanding with P800) : Apply two final coats using the second aerosol.

If imperfections such as small dust particles appear, polishing can be performed after at least 24 hours to perfect the clearcoat finish.

Safety Information :

Safety data sheets are available upon request. All products included in the kit are solvent-based and flammable. These are hazardous products, and safety instructions must be read before use. A suitable paint mask should be worn, and adequate ventilation must be ensured when not working in a spray booth.
