In aerosol spray : it will be a 1K basecoat in replacement of the 2K aerosol spray finish.

The preparation of the Harley shade by the colorist must be done according to a colour code / HD colour name.
Without this colour code, but only the Brand/Model/Year, we cannot make the colour.
To know the colour code / colour name of your motorcycle, the safest way is to consult your dealer. It is also possible to find information on specialized forums.

Quick Application Guide for Harley Davidson paint:

For Harley Davidson colors, it is recommended or even mandatory to apply the paint over a uniform background color, respecting the indications provided by the manufacturer. It is possible to apply the paint directly over the old paint, but if the HD shade is transparent, the final appearance may not match the original shade. Check out our Stardust Fast Grey or Black primer. This primer is very thin, does not require sanding, and is covered directly with the paint.

1/ Preparation of the base, according to the professional standards of body painting

Except in the case of an application on plastic or raw metal, the paint is generally applied as an overlay on an old paint / varnish / or primer

To guarantee the adhesion of the paint, sand lightly but carefully with 800 grit sandpaper and water. Rinse and dry.
Degrease (fingerprints, silicone, glue or grease) with our degreaser, soak a wiping paper, and remove the degreaser completely and immediately, with a dry and clean wiping paper, without waiting for evaporation;
Just before painting, pick up the dust on the part with our sticky wiping pad, without pressing.

2/ The paint

The Harley Davidson paint is applied with a body spray gun (medium nozzle of 1.0 to 1.4 mm with a pressure of 2.5 to 3 bars)
Start with an adhesion coat and wait for 2 minutes
Then apply 2 coats with 5 minutes between each. For metallic/pearl motorcycle paints, it is recommended to apply a final finer coat, 50 cm from the part, after 2 minutes.
It is important to varnish quickly after the application of the 1K basecoat because after 30 minutes, the motorcycle paint and the clearcoat will no longer stick together. Find more information on varnishing below

Harley Davidson® is the most creative and original motorcycle manufacturer in the choice of colors to paint its bodies : we find complex colors, truly custom, where special pearls, flakes and candies are often included in the formulation.
StardustColors is the specialist for the realization of Harley Davidson colors : thanks to our colorimetry service dedicated exclusively to motorcycle paint, and our databases updated every month, we have 80% of Harley fomulations. Our colorist can make with accuracy most of the Harley Davidson paints. Some new colors are not yet listed and are not communicated by the manufacturer unfortunately.

Special shades :

Some Harley Davidson paints are specific and are obtained by « 3-coat system »: If it is about your color code then our colorist will contact you in order to propose you the additional coat of paint (undercoat of color or colored clearcoat)

Topcoating :

It is important to varnish before thirty minutes in order to preserve the adhesion between the coats
Apply 2 coats of clearcoat with a 5 to 10 minutes interval,
Be sure to paint at an ambient temperature of at least 20°C
We offer a range of standard clearcoats (830 UHS, anti scratch, Ceramic or WET SPEED) and other special clearcoats

Our tips for those who paint outside the cabin :
- Disassemble the motorcycle and lay the parts flat and sufficiently spaced
- Before painting, make sure there is sufficient air circulation to avoid paint fumes falling on the paint
- Paint in dry and windless weather, out of humidity (to keep the clearcoat shiny and dust-free)

What is a 1K basecoat ?
Our motorcycle colors are delivered in a solvent-based « 1K basecoat »* for varnishing.
1K basecoat* : means that the painting is done in 2 steps, with the paint, then the clearcoat. As opposed to the 2K paint which is a paint with hardener, brilliant and resistant.
Therefore, each paint must be varnished in order to obtain the shine but also the resistance (gasoline, sun, water, projections..)
