The type of paint we offer is a professional solvent-based paint.
It is a one component paint, without hardener, ready to paint or with its thinner separately, depending on the formats.
For motorcycle painting, the painting system is always in at least 2 steps :
Paint
Clearcoat
In addition, a specific undercoat can be added in the case of a special color called 3-coat. In addition, a base color is usually recommended. Most modern motorcycle colours are not completely opaque and it is advisable, to obtain the best result, to apply a primer.
This not only provides a consistent background colour, but also levels and prepares the background, removing minor surface defects. Find this product at the bottom of the page, Just like the clearcoat.
How much paint should I order to paint a KTM motorcycle ?
In general, KTM motorcycles have a limited amount of surface, with a tank, covers, and guards, which represents a maximum of 1.5 m².
The yield or the general coverage of our KTM paint is :
1L ready to use for 4 m²
1 aerosol spray = 0.4 m²*
* Aerosol sprays are still the least economical method of painting because most of the volume of the aerosol is gas.
To paint your fairings, here are the different important or optional* products you need :
cleaning thinner*.
500* abrasive papers
degreaser*.
sticky pad*.
primer
clearcoat (imperative) : See bottom of page
Do you need a primer ?
To ensure a smooth, scratch-free background with no steps with the presence of stickers, you can apply one or more coats of primer. The default color is medium gray. Our color technician will adapt the color of this primer to your code. Your primer should always be sanded with a 500 grit sandpaper
Mixing
Pure paint : add 50-70% of V1 thinner included in the kit
diluted paint 250 and 500 ml : ready to use
Application :
On P500 sanded, clean, sound, degreased, dust free background :
Just before painting, pick up the dust on the part with our sticky wiping pad, without pressing.
Use a 1.0 mm to 1.4 mm gun with a pressure of 2 to 3 bars
Work between 15 and 25°C preferably
Apply 2 to 3 thin or medium coats with an interval of 5 minutes.
