In addition to the two LavaCrack steps, it is necessary to apply a basecoat (for the background color) and a final clearcoat (for gloss and protection). A primer may also be needed when working on a raw, bare, or damaged surface.
The basecoat and the clearcoat are sold separately.
Choosing the Background Color
Since the basecoat (1) is a transparent clearcoat, any background color can be applied beforehand.
It is crucial to create a strong contrast between the background color and the crackled coat (2), which is available in blue, grey, black, or white.
The background color can be :
An opaque solid color (white, yellow, green, etc.)
► 63 aerosol colors from the Stardust Bike range
A metallic or pearlescent paint for a reflective effect
Any special effects paint, such as fluorescent or chameleon colors
Application Instructions
Important: Shake the aerosol cans for 30 seconds before use. After use, purge the nozzle by spraying upside down.
Step 1 - Surface Preparation
Sand the existing painted surface with P500 grit sandpaper.
For metal or plastic surfaces, apply a specific primer before painting.
Step 2 - Apply the Base Color
Choose a color from the solid, fluorescent, metallic, or chameleon paint ranges.
Apply 2 to 3 thin coats, allowing 10 minutes drying time at 20°C between coats.
Move directly to the next step.
Step 3 - Apply the Clear Basecoat for Crackled effect (1). Apply one glossy, thick coat of the transparent basecoat. Allow 5 minutes of drying time, then proceed immediately to the next step.
Step 4 - Apply the Crackled Coat (2). Apply one single coat of the crackled paint. The thickness of the coat determines the size of the cracks: Thicker coat → Larger cracks. At 20°C, the cracks start to appear rapidly.
Important: Apply the final clearcoat within 30 minutes of the cracks forming to ensure adhesion.
Step 5 - Apply the Clearcoat. Apply two coats of glossy or matte clearcoat, waiting 10 minutes between coats. For depth and color effects, use a Candy-tinted clearcoat
To achieve high gloss, excellent durability, and long-lasting protection, use an automotive UHS 2K clearcoat in :
