Description

LAVA-CRACK is probably one of the first special effect paints in existence. It is a multi-layer system that creates a cracking phenomenon on the top layer.

A wide variety of interesting combinations can be achieved by varying

• The base coat (I) (which will be visible through the cracks)

• the colour of the top "cracking" layer (II)

• and it is also possible to apply a coloured Candy clearcoat as the final layer.

For the base coat (I), it is possible to use pearlescent paint, metallic paint, or even chameleon paint*.

The top layer (II) is supplied by default in pure black.

Visual Aspect :

We recommend applying a monochrome (pearl white or aluminium) light and reflective base coat, which will be visible under the Lava Crack Layer I.

For the final finish, we recommend applying a coloured Candy clearcoat : this tinted clearcoat will colour the base coat, which will shimmer and create a bright colour contrast with the black and opaque cracking top layer (II). The black layer will remain black after the tinted clearcoat is applied. Only the visible cracks will be coloured.

Contents of the can kit :

• 1 x 750ml Primer Kit P410 (500ml white or black primer + 125ml hardener + 125ml thinner)

• 1L of pearlescent white BC51 or metallic aluminium Bc9* paint

• 1L of Lava Crack Layer I (clear clearcoat)

• 1L of Lava Crack Layer II (black)

• 1 x UHS 830 2C clearcoat Kit of 165L

• 65ml of concentrated Candy tint (colour of your choice)

• 1L of UCT-S cleaning thinner

Contents of the Spray kit (15 aerosols)

• 3 x P410 bi-component primer aerosols (white or black)

• 3 x aerosols of pearlescent white BC51 or metallic aluminium BC9* paint

• 3 x aerosols of Lava Crack Layer I (clear clearcoat)

• 3 x aerosols of Lava Crack Layer II (black)

• 4 x aerosols of 2K Candy** clearcoat (see attached document for colour chart)

• 2 x aerosols of 2K Clear clearcoat

Application Instructions:

► Step 1 / Primer

Mix 4 parts primer + 1 part hardener + 1 part thinner.

Pot life of the mixture: 2 hours. Spray gun : 1.4 mm

Apply 2 to 3 coats. Allow 2 to 3 hours to dry. Sand with P500 grit.

► Step 2 / Reflective Paint

Shake well before use.

Product ready to use, pre-diluted. Spray gun : 1.4 mm

Apply the aluminium or pearl white paint in several thin layers until the surface is covered.

Proceed directly to the next step without waiting more than 20 to 30 minutes to ensure adhesion.

► Step 3 / Lava Crack Layer I (clear)

Shake well before use. Product ready to use, pre-diluted. Spray gun : 1.4 mm

Apply a glossy, thick coat.

Allow 5 to 10 minutes to dry, then proceed directly to the next step.

► Step 4 / Lava Crack Layer II (black)

Shake well before use. Product ready to use, pre-diluted. Spray gun : 1.4 mm

Apply a medium or thick coat depending on the desired crack size.

The thicker the coat, the larger the cracks, and vice versa.

Proceed directly to the next step without waiting more than 20 to 30 minutes to ensure adhesion.

► Step 5 / Candy clearcoat Colour of your choice

Mix 100 parts clearcoat with 33 parts hardener.

Add 5 or 6 parts of concentrated Candy tint and 5 parts thinner.

Pot life of the mixture : 40 minutes.

Apply 3 coats with 10 minutes intervals between them.

Allow 24 hours drying time before use.

► Step 6 / Final Clearcoat

Depending on the size of the cracks, there may be slight unevenness between the different layers. For this reason, it is necessary to apply multiple layers of clearcoat :

After applying and fully drying the Candy clearcoat (24 hours), lightly sand with 500 grit, then reapply 2 layers of clearcoat. This increases clearcoat thickness and gloss, while levelling and perfecting the clearcoat surface.

New coats of clearcoat can be applied every 24 hours after light sanding.

* Base Coat Options :

The base coat is a pearlescent or metallic paint that reflects light. This luminous colour is particularly effective under a tinted clearcoat, creating a "CANDY" effect. There are 2 main choices for this reflective base colour :

1 ► Pearl white, which provides a bright and clear "fluorescent" type colour. This is effective under green, yellow, orange, red, and pink colours.

2 ► Aluminium, which is the colour most commonly used under Candy clearcoats to create a deep, intense colour.

** What Candy Colour?

Candy tints are transparent colours used in "Custom" painting.

For an effect like "Lava Crack," we mainly recommend light colours that will create sufficient contrast with the black. Dark colours such as cobalt blue, brown, black, or violet will create more discreet, less visible cracks.

*** Matte Finish Option : It is possible to customise the LAVA CRACK paint kit to achieve a matte finish by replacing the clear and glossy final clearcoats with a matte clearcoat. You just need to request this by email after placing your order.
