Porsche paint – 1K basecoat version

The two-coat 1K basecoat system* (paint + topcoat) is the system used by manufacturers and body shops.
It includes all Porsche factory colours, as well as pearlescent and metallic paints.

How to choose the packaging ?
> By calculating the surface to be painted in m².
Porsche paint yield : 5 m²/L in 2 coats
For aerosol sprays, the coverage is 1 aerosol spray = 0.6m² max in two coats

The colour code plate (vinplate) can be found in three different places.

- Inside the engine bay.
- Between the two doors on the left side (driver's side).
- In the wheel compartment

The colour code always consists of three characters (letters or numbers).

Background preparation :
A primer is not normally necessary. Often a simple light sanding of the old paint is sufficient (800 paper), to allow adhesion.
Dry well, degrease with our degreaser, wipe well and remove the degreaser then collect the dust with our wiping pad.

Important:
The paint in the kits is delivered pure*. To give it the necessary viscosity,
Add 70% V1 thinner
* The 250 and 500 ml packagings are already diluted Porsche paints

Application :
Solvent-based 1K basecoats are particularly easy to apply : they can be applied with all types of spray guns, using thin coats (about 1.3 mm).
The thinner they are, the faster they dry, so the shorter the time between coats : at 20°C, the coats are applied in succession, while at cold temperatures, the coats are waited 5 minutes.

Professional application method recommended :
One very thin coat (to see possible defects)
one (or two) coat(s) with an interval of 5 min
For pearlescent/metallic : finish with half a coat with less pressure and with a little more distance to the substrate;
Topcoat:
Varnish after 15 minutes, with any of our car topcoats
You should not wait to varnish, because after 30 minutes, the adhesion is no longer possible in theory.
