Transparent gloss topcoat for an unbeatable grip on LEXAN fairings
Lexan® Body Primer is a clear adhesion promoter specially designed for this very strong and flexible polycarbonate plastic.
The primer is a kind of glossy varnish, based on acrylic and specific polyurethane, which allows a guaranteed adhesion on Lexan®.
This exceptional adhesion is possible even without sanding. The primer offers superior adhesion to our special lexan paints (opaque or pearlescent range). It can be used to ensure maximum adhesion when painting the hulls of radio-controlled vehicles, especially those intended for racing.
The adhesion primer allows to protect the paint decorations inside the hulls and fairings, which undergo very strong constraints and aggressions: stone projection, torsion, heat, shocks and abrasion .…
With the primer for Lexan the paint becomes absolutely indissociable from the plastic.
Composition : The product is a water-based compound containing no more than 3% solvent.
It is a non dangerous and non harmful product.
Appearance
In its liquid state it is whitish. When dry, it is transparent and shiny. For this reason it can be used as a varnish. Its resistance is exceptional, both to detergents and to abrasion.
Use :
It is usually used as a first coat, directly behind the transparent Lexan hull.
Coverage is an important point to understand :
When applying a new coat of paint (opaque or metallic color) behind the primer, it is recommended to act in "wet on wet" : This means in the interval of time when the surface of the primer is not yet completely dry. This interval ranges from 5 minutes to 48 hours.
Of course it is in the first two hours that the adhesion without sanding will be the best with a perfect cohesion between the primer and the paint.
Of course, if you need to make decorations or masking work, then you must let the primer dry completely to the touch, i.e. about 2 hours, then sand it down to about 500.
The respect of this rule for the intercoat adhesion is primordial to protect oneself against delamination, because one can obtain a very good adhesion on the plastic, but if the other coats do not adhere to each other, they will delaminate themselves from the primary.
