You can order all these KTM paints on our website and receive them within 24 hours. You will simply need to own your KTM color code. Without it, it will be difficult to do a search and determine exactly which KTM manufacturer color is present on your motorcycle.
We provide professional quality solvent-based paints. They are delivered either in a 400 ml aerosol or in a jar with capacities from 250 ml to 2 litres. Paints are pre-diluted or neat, depending on packaging (see product page below for offer details and instructions).
The manufacturer's paint alone is of course not enough to do a painting from A to Z. It is often necessary to have a primer and it is imperative to have a varnish. We are of course talking about a clearcoat for the bodywork which comes in the form of 2 or 3 products (clearcoat, hardener, thinner) and which will allow maximum resistance against scratches, chemicals, detergents and of course the petrol, but also which will protect the paintwork and fairings from UV and oxidation.
Regarding the primer, each color specifically requires a particular background color. This is determined by the manufacturer. Sometimes, you can apply the paint directly on the old background (red, orange, white...), but in general and especially if you don't have the information, it is better to apply a primer to create a background homogeneous in color, and also which is perfectly smooth and free from scratches. The primer fills and fills micro cracks, and after sanding, it produces a perfect surface.
Do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail or by telephone, in order to find out beforehand about your manufacturer's tint.
We can tell you if we have your reference in our color system or if your reference does not exist. We can tell you if your color is standard, or if, on the contrary, it is special and requires a first coat. We can also tell you the reference of the primer, in a pot or in an aerosol, that you will need to use.
Here are some tips for correctly applying your KTM tint :
The KTM brand color codes are often very beautiful colors with pearlescent effects.
If you apply the paint with a spray gun, take care to apply very thin coats. It is better to apply several thin coats, rather than thick coats. The drying time is relatively short for solvent-based paint, so in this way, you can chain the layers very quickly and obtain a perfect application.
When you paint with an aerosol, you cannot therefore dose the layers, However, you can adjust the speed of the passages from left to right, and therefore practice only fast layers.
It is very important to varnish as soon as possible after applying your KTM paint. Do not wait more than 30 minutes, because from that moment you will have to sand the paint to obtain a grip between the KTM color code paint and the clearcoat. Sanding can be damaging to pearlescent paint.
The history of motorcycle manufacturer KTM begins in 1934 in Austria. The founder is called Hans Trunkenpolz and he founded a locksmith and metalwork company at the time. He then becomes a representative of a bicycle brand and his business, well managed, will grow and prosper quickly.
In the 1950s, it already became a small maintenance and repair factory for all motorcycles and also cars. The year 1951 marked a turning point with the construction of the first motorcycle from the workshop.
It was at this time that the company went into partnership with an engineer and businessman, Mr. Kronreif. The company then dedicated itself to the mass production of motorcycles and reached a starting rate of around 3 motorcycles each day. This motorcycle has a 100cc engine.
A year later, the company celebrates its thousandth motorcycle manufactured and sold. It is also the true beginning of the KTM brand (Kronreif, Trunkenpolz, Mattighofen).
The company will participate in many speed races, and also road races, some of which are endurance races.
20 years later, the company has developed well and already has several factories with 200 employees. It was at this time that she launched the first enduro and cross bikes.
Today, the KTM company has a growing turnover of nearly 400 million euros annually and employs more than 1,500 people worldwide. It produces approximately 200,000 bicycles annually, 15% of which are electric bicycles.
If you bought your motorcycle new from the dealer, then you necessarily have your KTM color code and you will find it on your original booklet.
You can also ask your dealer.
It is not useful to ask a body painter to give you this code, because he will not be able to do so. Understand that it is not possible to determine a color code based on a year or even a model. For a single color, there are many variations that can be applied on different models, during different data.
If your motorcycle is second hand and you do not have this information, your last resort will be to go to the Internet forums. A lot of useful information is exchanged there, especially on the American and German forums.
You can call us to verify a color code. We will tell you if it exists and if it is available. We don't have all the formulas.
There is probably an iconic shade of the KTM brand which is the Golden Pearl Orange. This color uses a fairly rare and very high quality variety of mother of pearl. This mother-of-pearl is transparent and produces a golden reflection in the light. As it is transparent, it does not modify the background color (orange).
In general, KTM color codes start with the 2 letters KT :
KT0004 SILVER KTM MOTORCYCLES 2008 -
KT0005 FIRST COAT KTM MOTORCYCLES 2009 -
KT0005 ORANGE KTM MOTORCYCLES 2009 -
KT0006 FIRST COAT KTM MOTORCYCLES 2009 -
KT0006 ORANGE NACRE MAT KTM MOTORCYCLES 2009 -
KT0007 ARANCIO KTM MOTORCYCLES 2007 -
KT0007 FIRST COAT KTM MOTORCYCLES 2007 -
As you can see, many of the brand's colors are quite sophisticated and are achieved in 2 steps. These are so-called “tri-layer” paints.
