In the category of car paints for car parts, wing mirrors are among the areas of a vehicle most likely to be damaged. One should then get car paints in spray or can format to do the touch up work. A car mirror paint is a classic car paint, 1K or 2K.
The paint repair and renovation should usually be done in 3 steps :
Correction of scratches with filler and/or primer, then sanding.
Painting the mirror
The final clearcoat *
* Sometimes, in the rare cases where the color is non-metallic / non-pearlescent, then we paint with a 2K paint and there is no need for a clearcoat, which reduces the number of steps to two.
If the part has only light scratches on the surface of the clearcoat or paint, there is no need to even use a primer. Gentle hand sanding with water will remove the scratches and create a smooth surface.
As for the application, it is detailed in the product pages. It is very simple and easy on these small round parts :
We apply 2 to 4 thin veils of paint (vehicle color), then after a few minutes, we apply two beautiful glossy coats.
When these parts have suffered from impacts or scratches, the first thing to do is to find and know the color code or the name of the color of the wing mirror which naturally corresponds to the unique and particular tint of the whole vehicle. Once you have found this code, composed of 3 or 4 characters (numbers or letters), in the engine compartment or in the door openings, then you can order the paint of the manufacturer's tint, in minimum quantity (250ml can or 400ml aerosol).
The code is given by email + the brand right after the order.
A few words about the application of the paint on the wing mirror.
It is rather useless to dismantle the wing mirror, it is even completely disadvised given the complexity ! You just have to mask, i.e. protect the body area around the wing mirror with newsprint and protect the plastics and the wing mirror with adhesives.
All these papers and adhesives are removed once the clearcoat has dried for 30 minutes.
In case of deep scratches, for example if the wing mirror has scraped a wall, it is imperative to fill first with putty. Once the putty is dry, you can sand it down with a coarse sanding sheet (180 to 320).
Unfortunately, you can never paint directly on sanded putty because micro-defects will inevitably be visible : you must apply a surfacer primer before painting.
In the event of a bare plastic wing mirror, it is really advisable to apply a plastic adhesion promoter and to sand the plastic well with an abrasive sponge, if you want to obtain a satisfactory level of adhesion.
Below in this category, you will find all the necessary products (products and consumables) to properly prepare the surface, paint and apply clearcoat.
