As all enduro riders know, motocross is not a delicate sport. Trials events put the riders, their bikes and their fairings to a very tough test. That doesn't mean that you can't take care of the design of your cross country bike with a nice custom paint job.
For those who want to paint their cross country bike with a special paint in their own color, you should know that it is perfectly possible, but on a bike with soft plastic fairings.
The surfaces are small (that means that in terms of product, one spray can is enough), the shapes and reliefs are interesting to show the color changes and reflections, but the materials are hard to adhere to and very soft. You'll see that by following our instructions to the letter, you'll be able to give your cross country bike a unique look without ever worrying about peeling or degrading your beautiful pearl or Chameleon finish !
Trials have metal tubular frame areas and plastic areas that are often raw, unvarnished. This part is the most delicate to be painted :
On the plastic areas, stickers must be removed : for this, it is necessary to have a dryer or a heat gun, to heat them and remove them without difficulty. You can use anti-silicone degreaser to remove traces of glue.
Then, the plastic must be « bleached » by rubbing it with an abrasive sponge soaked in body thinner. Yes, this type of plastic is tough and almost impossible to adhere to without these barbaric techniques : then, it is really recommended, to pass a blowtorch flame quickly on the surface to make the plastic sweat.
The plastic adhesion promoter is then applied in one or two thin veils.
That's it. You can apply the cross country motorcycle paint on the plastic fairings and on the frame which will have been quickly sanded.
Whatever the cross country motorcycle paint for plastic is, if it is a single component (1K), it is always very flexible and can withstand, without any problem, the bending of the fairings. It is only in the clearcoats, applied in the very last step, that a special additive must be used to make them very flexible.
Fluorescent colors are ideal to give a sporty, aggressive and dynamic character to your bike. The most energizing colors are fluorescent green, yellow, orange and red. The process is simple (white base, followed by fluorescent, followed by clearcoat) and the three steps should be done without any delay. You can of course stick your stickers before varnishing.
Here is a UFO in the world of paint, something that will not go unnoticed: the chameleon effect, formerly known as the beetle effect, is a very special iridescent paint that keeps changing colors, depending on the position of the observer who looks at the cross country motorcycle. The choice of colors at Stardust is breathtaking and some of the shades are quite impressive.
