Introduction to PPG "Rapid Perf" UHS D8177 Clearcoat from the Deltron® Progress range
D8177 Air Dry Clearcoat represents the ultimate innovation from PPG laboratories:
A marvel of chemical technology, the formulation of PPG D8177 Clearcoat offers an application allowing exceptionally rapid drying.
« I use this new PPG D8177 clearcoat, it's just perfect, and for me, it's a great solution for an ambient temperature drying system without baking...
It dries in 20 minutes at 40 degrees and 1 hour 30 minutes at 20 degrees...
Its gloss is truly exceptional and it doesn't dull over time.»
« Single visit »*
Dense and thick, this clearcoat can be applied in a single "visit" (pass) and does not require a second coat.
PPG D8177 Clearcoat produces a Premium finish quality, and dries at ambient temperature without baking, but it can also be baked at low temperature (40°C substrate), making this product extremely versatile.
► This results in productivity gains in terms of product, working time, energy, and workspace occupancy.
In combination with its hardener D8307 (inclus dans le kit) and its two specific thinners, D8177 clearcoat yields perfection in terms of coverage and gloss, in all temperature and humidity conditions.
PPG D8177 has been developed to produce an optimal finish on modern water-based body paints, and can be used on solvent-based effects paints from the Stardust brand.
Activation of the 1K base is not necessary before applying the clearcoat.
* « Single visit » is an English term for the process of applying in a single pass: a quick and light coat, followed immediately by a normal, full, and glossy coat.
« I use D8131 exclusively for repairs and touch-ups in our body shop. It hardens extremely quickly, and regardless of the seasons and temperature variations in the workshop, the clearcoat lays perfectly... at room temperature, I can handle it and take it out of the booth after 40 minutes...»

▪ Be careful not to overflow the blending area without going to the edge of the prepared area.
▪ Apply the blend thinner around the blend area
▪ After drying and cooling, polishing can be performed.
• Polish as usual with Mirka polish.
How to Apply D8177 Clearcoat on Flexible Plastic Parts and Achieve Textured Finishes
For bare and raw plastic, use plastic adhesion promoter
Texturizing additives can be used to achieve a textured appearance. For use on flexible substrates*, our flexibilizing additive can be used between 1 and 3%.
*note : In the automotive painting trade, plastic elements are considered rigid. Although they may appear flexible, they are actually quite rigid when fixed and mounted on the bodywork. Automotive clearcoats like PPG D8177 are naturally designed to remain flexible for many years without cracking.
On motorcycle parts, quad parts, or even foam-type parts, mostly from older vehicles, parts may be twisted or bent at angles up to 30°: in these cases, it is strongly recommended to use the Flexibilizing Additive. However, this additive is not recommended and unnecessary for hydro or solvent-based 1K basecoat paints.
